Wait.
âBack again?â
Looking straight ahead, I continued bobbing my head to the music, purposely not looking at the woman standing to my right.
âIt would appear that way, love,â I replied and, for some reason, she thought that was funny and started to laugh. With one brow up, I glanced up at her, wondering what it was Iâd said that was so damn funny.
âIâm sorry,â she said, covering her mouth with one hand as she continued to laugh, harder and harder with each passing second.
This bitch is crazy.
I watched her struggle to collect herself. Thatâs when I noticed the tears in her eyes. I frowned slightly, wondering if she had laughed so hard that it brought her to tears or if this was something else.
âIâm so sorry,â she said, rubbing her eyes. The edges of her lips turned down, letting me know that the tears werenât from the laughter and she was on the verge of crying.
Shit.
I began to shift uncomfortably, wondering why it was so hard for me to tell her to get the fuck away. Normally, it wasnât an issue speaking my mind and that was definitely what I had in mind to say. The last thing I needed at the moment was another emotional ass female to deal with. Janelle had that position locked the fuck down.
But glancing back at her again, something made me keep my mouth shut. She seemed to be in distress and I couldnât help wondering if it had something to do with her son. Even though our encounter was brief, I had to admit that the lilâ man had made an impression on me.
âUh⦠you good?â I asked, rubbing my hand over my short-cropped beard. The shit sounded lame even to my own ears as soon as I said it but from the way she sunk down into the seat next to me, dropped her face in her hands while letting out a heavy sigh, it must have been enough for her.
âIâm just stressed the fuck out,â she said all in one breath. âI came to this city with my sonâs father but heâs no help at all. Then my brother moved here and everything was good for a while⦠he helped me out with Isaiah, basically took care of us so that I could try and get on my feet. But now heâs gone and⦠I have no one.â
Tears started to stream down her cheeks and I cut my eyes from her face to look around. Nobody was looking our way but I still slid a little away from her. I didnât need anybody thinking that whatever was going on with her ass had anything to do with me. That wouldnât do nothing but bring even more bullshit to my front door.
âDamn, thatâs foul as fuck,â I replied, but my voice was void of real emotion. âYou should probably go talk âbout that shit with one of them hoes in the back.â
It was my version of a hint that she needed to get her ass up and go talk the ear off her homegirl or some shit.
